Down Under Duo Ready for U.S. Debut
The Melbourne duo Big Scary - Tom Iansek and Jo Syme - are making their first visit to SXSW, bolstered by Aussie acclaim to their full-length debut Vacation. It was nominated for Album of the Year by Triple J radio and the duo is hailed as "without a doubt one of Australia’s most talented and diverse bands."
It's the diversity of Big Scary sounds that is so frequently mentioned. Tom and Jo first started playing simple acoustic songs in 2006, but the soundscape of Vacation includes everything from piano pop to flat out garage rockers. The full-length album was preceded by a series of seasonally-themed EPs known collectively as The Big Scary Four Seasons.
